Word of the Day Nutraceuticals!

11feb11

The word of the day is NUTRACEUTICALS!
I know what you're thinking.  "C'mon, Tom.  The stuff I get from the Local Vitamin Store is just fine.  What possible advantage in injectable amino acids?"
First, let's discuss the term bioavailability, which is the body's absorbtion rate for a supplemental product.  Even assuming that the oral pill is 80% of the amino acid advertised (and it's often significantly less -- most oral products are fillers and unrelated crud), after going through the acids of the digestive system, little of the amino actually enters the bloodstream.  Most is flushed away through the liver and kidneys.  So, you're starting with less than 100% of the product, and you digest away most of THAT.
In terms of bio-availability, an injectable amino -- already at 100% purity -- delivers 100% to the body, because it avoids the breakdown in the digestive system, and the filtering in the liver.  At PRCinDC, we'll be offering a line of Nutraceutical amino acids.  I guess I'll get the list out of the way right now:
**L-Carnitine -- Carnitine is a nutrient that helps the body turn fat into energy. It is
produced by the body in the liver and kidneys and stored in the skeletal
muscles
, heart, and brain.  Carnitine can provide more energy and help with
fat loss.  Additionally carnitine can increase androgen receptor density
making testosterone and other androgens to work more efficiently.

**L-Arginine -- Arginine is an amino acid, converts into N.O. (nitric oxide). NO is a
powerful vasodilator to increase the blood flow to your muscles and organs.
This can increase physical performance and exercise recovery.  Additionally,
Arginine can increase sexual performance in a mechanism similar to Viagra
(vasodilatation).  Several studies have shown that injectable arginine can
boost growth hormone levels.

**L-Glutamine -- Glutamine is an amino acid, specifically the most prevalent amino acid in
the body.  It can enhance exercise recovery and boost physical performance.
Glutamine can also assist with injury healing.  Glutamine may cause higher
growth hormone levels in the body.

**L-Glutathione -- Glutathione is considered the master antioxidant.  It is produced by the
liver and is critical for detoxifying the body.  As the master antioxidant
it can help eliminate free radicals which some consider the cause of aging.
Certain medications can place stress on the liver decreasing glutathione
levels and liver health.   When the liver functions more efficiency health
is improved.  Lastly improved liver functioning may help lower estrogen
levels
in men, which can contribute to a leaner body, improved sexual
performance and less side effect from testosterone.

**L- Carnosine -- Carnosine, is an amino acid made naturally in the body.  Supplementation of
carnosine is considered by many to be a powerful anti-aging supplement.  It
may increase physical performance and exercise recovery.  It works inside
cells at the mitochondrial level.  As we age mitochondria (cellular energy
producers) decline, carnosine my help improve energy at the mitochondrial
cellular level helping to prevent aging.

**MIC Injections -- MIC is an injection that contains L-Methionine, Inositol, and Choline.
These are lipotropic agents that are believed to support liver function and
promote the excretion of fat. L-Methionine is an amino acid. Inositol and
choline are cofactors. Together they help the body in the mobilization and
elimination of abnormal fat deposits.

Eric and I decided to try a ten week program and see what we thought.  We're using the L-Carnitine, the L-Glutamine, and the L-Glutathione (which I have trouble pronouncing).  Started this morning before my workout and I have to say -- and I know there's a psychological effect of starting something new -- that I swear I could feel it.  I had great energy and focus -- on the other hand, it WAS shoulder day, and that's my favorite...
I'll keep everyone updated about how I progress, but I suspect I already know how it's going to read.  Not that that will stop me.
Peace.
